“Drop of Sunshine” a collection of art celebrating the life and light found in spring.

Every spring I am amazed when the new life emerges out of winter. Blooms suddenly burst from bear limbs and tiny flowers fill the grass. The first pollinators start zipping around to help the plants grow. The early morning light that sparkles across fields filled with dew. The air is extra fresh and I feel a renewed sense of hope and energy each year. I always want to paint everything and anything I see. So this year the gift I am giving to myself is permission to paint a variety of subjects and in different mediums to celebrate this season of spring.

I am thrilled to be launching this collection called “Drop of Sunshine” on my birthday. I hope you will join me in celebrating the light, joy, and hope found in the gift of changing seasons and the beauty in simple things.

Meadows

These paintings were made last year for the “Home” show at the Terrace Gallery. I have sat with them for a year and finally decided to be brave and add a layer of texture to each one and absolutely love the results. These paintings remind me to look at all the little gifts given in creation. The tiniest flower in the grass reminds me that the small can be expansive.

Bugs

Children are so good at finding joy in the simple things. My son, Thomas, keeps discovering different bugs that amaze him every time. I started painting a few and I became equally amazed at the gorgeous colors and intricate details that these tiny creatures hold.

Trees

I love painting trees and noticing their unique shapes and colors. I have been painting the blooming trees this spring and pulling them out of their surroundings so they can be appreciated in a new way.

Three 3x5 watercolor and gouache paintings matted to 8x10 inches and four 7x8 inch watercolor and gouache paintings matted to 16x20 inches.

Small Landscapes of Light

I ultimately want this collection to fill you with hope through seeking the light. Each landscape has light dancing across it and is named for the light found in it. Kristen and Keith Getty have a song on the Evensong album called “Keeping Letting the Light In” it is all about where our hope comes from and helping our kids see it when they are young and then shift to seeking it for themselves as they grow.

“Send Out Your Light”

Psalm 43:3 Send out your light and your truth; let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling!

'“The Light About Me”

Psalm 139:11 If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me, and the light about me be night,” even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is bright as the day for darkness is as light with you.

“Keep Letting the Light In”

The title is a song I love by the Getty’s.
Proverbs 4:18 But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, which shines brighter until full day.

“Yours is the Day”

Psalm 74:16 Yours is the day, yours also the night; you have established the heavenly lights and the sun.

Large Landscapes

I am excited to share Flourish and Home is Where the Roots Are with you in this space. These both mark a shift to embrace expressive mark making to hopefully fill you with the joy I feel while painting.
